What Is Optional Practical Training (OPT)?<\/span><\/h2>\n

OPT gives you the chance to turn your studies into real-world experience. After completing an eligible program such as a vocational school, two-year college, university, graduate school, or a nine-month or longer certificate, you can work full-time in the U.S. for up to 12 months, with extended options for certain majors.<\/span><\/p>\n

OPT positions must be connected to your field of study. For details on application timelines and steps, your school\u2019s International Student Office is the best place to start.<\/span><\/p>\n

OPT approval from U.S. immigration is required, and you can only begin working once your Employment Authorization Document (EAD) card arrives.<\/span><\/p>\n
